Cowboys snuck bizarre WR cut decision past everyone during Micah Parsons trade image

The Dallas Cowboys captured headlines Thursday by trading away Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in a deal that has potential to be one of the most consequential in NFL history.

That allowed another move they made, one that is a bit odd on paper, to fly well under the radar.

Also on Thursday, the Cowboys waived second-year wide receiver Ryan Flournoy. It was an unexpected decision, given that just two days earlier Flournoy had been named to the 53-man roster on cutdown day.

Dallas has just four WRs on its roster right now in CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin.

Flournoy was a contributor as a rookie both in the passing game and on special teams.

The Cowboys drafted him in the 2024 sixth round after a nomadic college career.

Flournoy played in 11 games as a rookie. He caught 10 passes for 102 yards. He also made two tackles.

The 6-foot-1 25-year old could wind up on the practice squad, in concept, if he clears waivers.

The timing is just all a bit odd. The Cowboys open the season in less than a week now, on Thursday, Sept. 4 against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL's annual Thursday curtain raiser.

Dallas used the Flournoy roster spot to claim former Eagles offensive lineman Trevor Keegan off waivers. He was a surprising cut by Philly, given that he was a fifth-round pick in 2024.

So it's a swap of one second-year player for another for Dallas. It's just a bit odd to see Flournoy, at least temporarily, get sent on his way so soon after making the roster.
