Chuba Hubbard didn't do anything wrong.

The Carolina Panthers' star running back got injured and has had to miss a couple weeks.

But when he comes back, he might not have a job to come back to.

In Hubbard's absence, Rico Dowdle has turned into the best running back in football.

In Week 6, Dowdle set a new Panthers record for most yards from scrimmage in a game.

On Sunday, Dowdle ran 30 times for 183 yards. He added four catches for 56 yards.

And it was enough to lead the Panthers past Dallas in a 30-27 victory.

A week ago, Dowdle had 23 carries for 206 yards.

It doesn't feel like a fluke at all, given that Dowdle surpassed 1,000 yards last season for the Dallas Cowboys.

It just feels unlucky for Hubbard.

Can the Panthers really bench Dowdle for Hubbard after this?

It's got a chance to be a really tough break for the talented Hubbard. He's in the midst of getting Wally Pipp'd (that being the first baseman who got the day off on the first day of Lou Gehrig's incredible consecutive games streak).

Dowdle at the very least will see more time than he was getting.

And no one can blame the Panthers for that.
