The Baltimore Ravens are reportedly making a move to address their ailing defense.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Ravens are signing former Super Bowl champion defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson to the practice squad.
"Free-agent safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson is signing with Ravens practice squad," Schefter wrote. "Gardner-Johnson still gets his fully guaranteed 2025 salary with the Texans so there is little financial impact for the Ravens."
After winning a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles last season, Gardner-Johnson was traded to the Houston Texans during the offseason.
However, his stint in Houston lasted just three games before he was released after having a disagreement with the way he was being used.
"Texans released C.J. Gardner-Johnson after friction behind the scenes with him complaining about his role, wanting to blitz more, per league sources, and even communicating that he wanted to be traded," Aaron Wilson of Click2Houston reported.
The signing of Gardner-Johnson comes amid the Ravens dealing with a slew of injuries on defense that include, but are not limited to, safety Kyle Hamilton and cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Marlon Humphrey.
The Ravens' season is on life support after a 1-4 start, and making things worse is the fact that Lamar Jackson might miss another game.
But clearly Baltimore isn't going to give up just yet and Gardner-Johnson could provide some relief for the aforementioned injured players if he can behave himself, which is never a guarantee.
