On the opening play of the second half of Saturday's season opener, Texas A&M gave up a 75-yard touchdown run.
That closed the Aggies' lead on UTSA to four points.
But the Aggies responded with three unanswered touchdowns, while their defense held the Roadrunners to six straight punts following that big-play TD as A&M opened the 2025 season with a 42-24 win at Kyle Field.
A&M quarterback Marcel Reed had a big night, throwing for 289 yards and four TDs. But it was a pair of new receivers who stole the show.
KC Concepcion, a transfer from NC State, caught a TD pass and returned a punt 80 yards for the Aggies' first score. Then Mario Craver, a transfer from Mississippi State, was the Aggies' leading receiver, catching six passes for 122 yards and two TDs.
UTSA running back Robert Henry Jr. had 177 yards on 16 carries and two TDs, including the 75-yard sprint on the first play of the third quarter that cut the Aggies' lead to four, 21-17.
But the Aggies scored a pair of touchdowns later in the third quarter to gradually pull away, while their defense kept the Roadrunners in check until giving up a TD in the final seconds.
A&M (1-0) is at home again next Saturday to take on Utah State before traveling to Notre Dame the following week.
