Just before the Sunday Night Baseball showdown between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers, the Giants pulled off a shocking trade.
The deal sent multiple players to Boston in exchange for star third baseman/DH Rafael Devers.
It's safe to say it was a stunning trade that nobody saw coming, and the Giants sending Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison and two minor leagues while picking up the majority of Devers' contract.
Still, the former Red Sox star is having a strong season, hitting .271 with 14 home runs and 57 RBI, including a solo home run in Sunday's win over the New York Yankees.
After the trade was announced, Giants All-Star pitcher Logan Webb expressed excitement with Devers coming to town, per Susan Slusser of The San Francisco Chronicle.
"Any time you have a player of that caliber, I think you give yourself a chance... I don't know where he's going to hit, but I don't think it really matters. The guy's a stud, plain and simple. I'm ecstatic about it."
Webb wasn't the only one, either. Willy Adames also spoke on the acquisition, per Slusser: "We needed a bat like him. I'm so happy I don't even know how to describe it."
Dom Smith, who played with Devers in Boston, also was thrilled to see the deal, per Slusser: "We got a really, really talented ballplayer, right in his prime. I can't wait to see how many balls he hits in the cove."
So, the Giants land Devers in a stunning turn of events as they try and stay in contention in the crowded National League West.
