The Detroit Tigers were dealt a major scare during the most recent start from staff ace Tarik Skubal. Against the Miami Marlins, Skubal was taken out of the game early with left side tightness, with plenty of Tigers fans concerned about a long-term injury.

He lasted just 3.1 innings and allowed four runs in one of his worst starts of the year. With the postseason just around the corner, an injury to Skubal would be disastrous for the Tigers' postseason chances this October.

Fortunately, MLB insider Jon Morosi on MLB Network revealed some great news regarding Skubal, which is the best possible news for the Tigers ace that fans could've wished for after the scary injury.

Tigers getting Skubal back for his next start

According to Morosi, the Tigers will have Skubal make his next start on Thursday, September 18th, against the Cleveland Guardians. With 12 games left in the 2025 MLB season, this start from Skubal will be one of his last.

"The expectation is he will make his start Thursday at Comerica Park against the Guardians," Morosi said. "But, I'm going to be honest, I did not think that would be the news I'd be sharing with you on a Monday morning when I saw this scene on Friday night."

After undergoing imaging on his left side, the Tigers breathed a sigh of relief, as there was no structural damage and there wasn't any major concern.

Morosi mentions that the Tigers will have Skubal go through his normal warm-up to get ready for a start, which, since he's slated to start on Thursday, will begin on Monday.

Until Skubal gets back on the mound and proves he's okay, there will always be some concern. But, this update from Morosi is still some very good news for Skubal to be ready to go.

Skubal is amid another Cy Young-type season, as he's likely the favorite to win the AL Cy Young. He has a 2.26 ERA with 224 strikeouts and a 13-5 record. At 28 years old, he's been one of the best pitchers in the sport.

If the Tigers didn't have him for the postseason, it'd be a huge loss for the Tigers, and it would make any series they play an uphill battle.

Fortunately, this update is good news for Skubal, as the lefty pitcher is slated to make his regularly scheduled start on Thursday against the Guardians, his 30th of the year, and just six days since Skubal left his 29th start early with left side tightness.
