Baker Mayfield reveals 1 key reason Buccaneers lost to Eagles image

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers suffered a 31-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles as Todd Bowles saw his team's undefeated start to the year end.

And the Buccaneers only have themselves to blame.

A slow start, which saw Tampa Bay down 24-6 at halftime, meant a huge mountain to climb in the second half, and while it got close, it was always going to be tough to complete the comeback.

And Baker knows it.

"We fight," Mayfield said. "I've talked about it, [the] standard is fight back. We don't stop fighting until the game's over. That's the positive to take out of it, but the negative is directly related to that. We talked about starting fast, and we quite obviously did the opposite. So, got to fix that. You can't expect to beat teams of that caliber when you start slow like that."

Buccaneers' horror start key to Eagles loss

Against a team like Philadelphia, you can't afford to start the game with cement in your shoes, and the Buccaneers, unfortunately, did just that.

The Buccaneers had a punt blocked on their opening drive, which was returned for a touchdown, then punted again, before a field goal, then back-to-back punts, before a field goal to end the half.

All the while, the Eagles scored 24 points.

That was the game, and yes, Tampa Bay almost came back; it can't allow an 18-point "head start" to a team like Philadelphia.

Mayfield knows it, and it condemned the Buccaneers to their first defeat of the season.
