Giants RB depth chart: Where Cam Skattebo, Devin Singletary rank after Tyrone Tracy Jr. injury image

The New York Giants will be without starting running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. for at least the next few weeks.

Tracy is expected to miss two to four weeks after suffering a dislocated shoulder in Sunday night’s 22-9 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 2024 rookie rushed for more than 1,000 total yards last season while leading the Giants on the ground. This year, he has yet to record more than 10 carries in a game before the injury setback.

In Tracy’s absence, rookie Cam Skattebo is expected to take over as New York’s lead back. A standout at Arizona State, Skattebo posted more than 2,000 scrimmage yards in 2024 before being drafted by the Giants. He has 23 carries for 102 yards and two touchdowns through three games.

Here's the state of the Giants running back room with their second-year back out for a few weeks.

1. Cam Skattebo

Skattebo brings a dynamic and physical style to New York’s backfield. A zero-star recruit out of Rio Linda, Calif., he rose to national prominence across two programs and became one of the most decorated players in Arizona State history.

He began his career at Sacramento State, where he was named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Year in 2022, before transferring to Arizona State in 2023. There, he became the first player in school history to record more than 2,000 scrimmage yards in a season, helping lead the Sun Devils to a Big 12 championship and their first College Football Playoff appearance.

Skattebo followed that with a landmark 2024 campaign, rushing for 1,711 yards and 21 touchdowns while adding 605 receiving yards and three more scores. He earned first-team All-America and All-Big 12 honors and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.

He was the first Big 12 player to surpass 1,500 rushing yards and 500 receiving yards in the same season before the Giants drafted him with the 105th overall pick in April.

Singletary has been a steady producer throughout his career. A fourth-round pick, he spent four seasons with the Buffalo Bills and led the team in rushing each year. In 2023, he signed with the Houston Texans and posted a career-high 898 rushing yards.

Following the departure of Saquon Barkley in 2024, the Giants signed Singletary to a three-year, $16.5 million contract to serve as a veteran anchor. Reunited with head coach Brian Daboll from their time in Buffalo, he ran for 437 yards last season while ceding lead-back duties to Tyrone Tracy Jr.

From 2022-24, Singletary topped 1,000 scrimmage yards each season. His numbers have dipped early in 2025, but with Tracy sidelined, he has an opportunity to carve out a bigger role in New York’s offense.
