Geno Smith interceptions: Raiders QB becomes NFL leader in picks with 'hat trick' of turnovers vs. Bears image

The Las Vegas Raiders brought Geno Smith to town in the offseason with hopes that he'd remain the same strong starter with a big arm that previously led the Seattle Seahawks. But so far, things haven't been very pretty for Smith while wearing black and silver.

The Raiders came into Week 4 at 1-2, seeking to take down the Chicago Bears to get back to .500.

Along the way though, Smith's turnovers remained prominent — after coming into the matchup with as many touchdown passes as interceptions, the veteran tossed a few more picks against Chicago.

MORE WEEK 4:

Geno Smith interceptions vs. Bears

Smith came into Week 4 already owning four interceptions to go with his four touchdown passes this season. Three of those came against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 2, which was a 20-9 loss for Las Vegas.

However, a matchup with the Bears proved to be another difficult task for Smith. He threw his first pick of the day on the Raiders' first drive. Kevin Byard III grabbed the ball, which set up a field goal for the Bears.

Byard did it again in the second quarter. When Smith tried to get the football to his top receiver, Jakobi Meyers, the safety stepped right in front of him and notched his second turnover.

While Smith did throw two touchdown passes in the game, he wasn't done with the interceptions. In the third quarter, he was again looking for Meyers when Tyrique Stevenson dove for a pick.

After the Raiders' 25-24 loss, Smith said "the guy that I’m supposed to be hasn’t showed up yet," per Ryan McFadden.

NFL interceptions leaders

With his interceptions against the Bears, Smith became the new NFL leader in the category as Week 4 continues. Six of his seven interceptions came in either Week 2 vs. Los Angeles or Week 3 vs. Chicago.

Smith surpassed Jake Browning for the league lead in interceptions. Here's a look at the updated NFL leaders in picks:
