Lucas Paqueta could sue the Football Association (FA) after he was acquitted for spot-fixing betting charges by an independent commission.

An investigation was launched in August 2023 before the charges were brought against the West Ham midfielder in July 2024.

The Brazilian was accused of spot fixing in games against Leicester (November 2022), Aston Villa (March 2023), Leeds (May 2023) and Bournemouth (August 2023).

The misconduct charges claimed Paqueta had intentionally moved to receive yellow cards to influence the betting market for personal profit.

It was reported that 253 bettors put £47,000 bets on the Brazilian receiving yellow cards during the Premier League fixtures, leading to a £167,000 profit.

Paqueta denied the accusations.

The four charges brought against him where found to have "no proof" and he was cleared.

The FA confirmed they would not be appealing the decision of the independent commission.

Sky Sports News understands that Paqueta is consulting legal advice as he considers suing the governing body.

West Ham United have clarified that they will not be taking legal action against the FA, as they don't believe it in their best interest.

The club suffered damages in August 2023 when an £80 million transfer move for Paqueta to Manchester City collapsed.
