Nottingham Forest confirm Postecoglou as head coach following Nuno exit image

Nottingham Forest have confirmed the appointment of Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach following the departure of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Forest announced early on Tuesday that Nuno had left the club, with an extremely successful spell at The City Ground ended amid tension between himself and owner Evangelos Marinakis.

Nuno led Forest a seventh-placed finish in the Premier League last season after they challenged for the Champions League for much of the campaign. Forest will play in the Europa League this season.

But a well-publicised rift with Marinakis saw his tenure end on a sour note, with Forest quickly turning to Postecoglou, who left Tottenham in June following a remarkable second season in North London.

Postecoglou delivered on his promise of securing silverware as Tottenham beat Manchester United 1-0 in the Europa League final.

However, he oversaw 21 Premier League defeats in 38 games as Spurs finished 17th, that record leading to him being relieved of his duties.

Now with a second chance in the Premier League, Postecoglou makes the move to the City Ground with plenty to prove.

Forest must challenge for trophies

In his statement confirming Postecoglou's arrival, Marinakis made it clear Postecoglou's track record as a trophy winner in his career was a key factor in the decision to name him Nuno's successor.

"We are bringing a coach to the Club who has a proven and consistent record of winning trophies," Marinakis said.

"His experience of coaching teams at the highest level, along with his desire to build something special with us at Forest, makes him a fantastic person to help us on our journey and achieve consistently all our ambitions.

"After gaining promotion to the Premier League, then building consistently season after season to secure European football, we now must take the right step to compete with the very best and challenge for trophies.

"Ange has the credentials and the track record to do this, and we are excited he is joining us on our ambitious journey."

Forest have claimed four points from their first three Premier League games of the 2025-26 campaign and visit Arsenal on Saturday.
