Newcastle United will be without new signings Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey for Saturday's game with Wolves, with the latter facing a month on the sidelines.

Wissa arrived in a long-awaited deadline day move from Brentford as Newcastle allowed Alexander Isak to leave for Liverpool in a British-record £125million deal.

Newcastle paid £55m for Wissa, but the striker will not feature at St James' Park after suffering a knee injury in DR Congo's World Cup qualifier with Senegal on Tuesday.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, manager Eddie Howe could not give a timeframe for Wissa's return and indicated he may need to see a specialist.

"Unfortunately he won't make this game," Howe said of Wissa.

"I saw him for the first time yesterday and he's feeling the effects of the injury sustained just before he came off [against Senegal]. We're going to have to see how he is.

"He will go away for tests and maybe see a specialist to see."

Ramsey set to miss a month

With Wissa out, Newcastle's record signing Nick Woltemade is likely to start up front against Wolves following his £69m move from Stuttgart.

"He's [Woltemade] trained well and we're really pleased with how he's looked in the first couple of days," Howe added.

"Big change for him, big opportunity for him. He's got a great nature, a great character. He's very calm and he's gone straight into our training and not looked out of place.

"He's shown his qualities. We're really pleased with how he's settled in."

But there is worse news in midfield with Ramsey, a £39m signing from Aston Villa, set for a prolonged absence with an ankle issue he sustained against Leeds United last month.

"Jacob is our only other injury concern and he'll miss the game," said Howe.

"He's suffered from that tackle against Leeds, his ankle swelled up at half-time and he had to come off. Unfortunately I think he'll be missing until the next international break so that's a big blow."

Joelinton will likely take Ramsey's place in midfield, with the Brazilian fit to return from a groin injury as Newcastle seek their first win of the season after taking two points from their opening three games.
