AC Milan have entered loan negotiations with Manchester United over Rasmus Hojlund, whose place at Old Trafford looks increasingly uncertain after the signing of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.

United are said to be open to offers around £40m or a loan with an option to buy. Milan are believed to be exploring a structure that could see Hojlund join initially on loan before making the move permanent, though final details are yet to be agreed.

Hojlund’s standing in Ruben Amorim’s squad took a hit when he was left on the bench for United’s final pre-season friendly against Fiorentina, with Mason Mount – a midfielder – starting as a false nine.

After the game, the head coach said: “We struggled without a reference as a striker. We have a new player, so we’ll see.”

While Sesko remains unproven in the Premier League, the United boss appears to favour the Slovenian’s profile, which could limit Hojlund’s opportunities further if he stays.

Does Hojlund have a future at United?

The Dane has previously vowed to fight for his place, but it is starting to be evident he has joined Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia on the list of players the club are prepared to move on from.

Sesko was formally presented to United fans on Saturday ahead of the 1-1 draw with Fiorentina. The 22-year-old, who signed a five-year deal, will cost an initial £66.26m plus £7.36m in add-ons.

His arrival follows the big-money signings of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, bringing United’s spending on forwards this summer to a staggering £207.2m.

For Hojlund, the next few weeks could define his future — whether that’s a fresh start in Serie A or an uphill battle to stay relevant in Manchester.
