Stefan Ortega has been a solid backup to Ederson for Manchester City since he arrived at the club in 2022.

Ortega has filled in when Ederson was out of action, helping City win the Premier League twice and the Champions League.

The German has also been an excellent goalkeeper for cup competitions, playing in three FA Cup finals.

With the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford this summer, Ederson departed for Fenerbahce. Ortega could also be on his way to the Super Lig.

Florian Plettenberg posted on X: "Trabzonspor are now exploring deal to sign Stefan #Ortega. Ortega is evaluating this option. No offer yet."

Ortega was only on the bench in City's opening game of the season when Ederson was ill. The German has since been left out of Pep Guardiola's match-day squads.

He will be the third choice behind Donnarumma and Trafford this season, so he will be unlikely to get game time even in cup competitions.

At Trabzonspor, Ortega could be a first-choice keeper once again. The keeper has not had that responsibility since his days with Arminia Bielefeld in the Bundesliga.

Ortega is now 32, so he will want to play as much football as he can before he retires. Even if it is at a side that is not guaranteed to win trophies.

Trabzonspor have had a great start to the Super Lig, where they are second only to defending champions Galatasaray.
