In a blockbuster transfer, Liverpool have officially completed the signing of striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United for a British-record fee.

The arrival of a player of Isak's calibre is a major coup for the Premier League champions, but the deal comes with a detailed history of injuries that have affected his availability.

A breakdown of his injury history since joining Newcastle in August 2022, provides a clear picture of his time on Tyneside.

  • 2022/23 Season: Isak's longest single absence was due to a thigh injury, which saw him miss 18 matches for club and country.

  • 2023/24 Season: He missed a total of 12 games due to two separate groin injuries.

  • 2024/25 Season: Before his move to Liverpool, Isak had already missed nine matches for Newcastle due to a number of niggling injuries, including a broken toe and a hamstring issue. Although it is difficult to tell how many games he would have missed without the on going transfer saga.

In total, the Swedish international has missed 39 matches for club and country since joining Newcastle in 2022.

This represents a significant amount of games missed for a player of his standing.

While he was prolific when fit, his inability to maintain a consistent run of games was a source of frustration for both the player and the club.

However, it is also noted that last season was his most reliable in terms of availability, and his absence in recent weeks was a combination of injury and his desire to secure the move to Liverpool.

Liverpool's medical and scouting departments will have conducted a thorough examination of his fitness record before sanctioning the record-breaking deal.

The club will now be hoping to manage his workload effectively and keep him fit for the season.
