Arsenal have recognised the displays of one of the team's most reliable and consistent performers in recent times.

Goalkeeper David Raya has signed a new contract at the club which will see him earn a higher salary than his previous deal.

Interestingly, the Spaniard's new deal is not an extension and he still remains contracted to Mikel Arteta's side until 2028, but there is an option to extend his contract down the line.

Raya will now earn more than the weekly £100,000 salary that he was on when he joined the club initially on loan from Brentford in summer 2023.

Arsenal have made similar deals recently, with forward Leandro Trossard agreeing to a better wage package this past summer, while still remaining contracted to the side until 2027.

According to BBC Sport, Raya signed his improved contract a few months back, but Arsenal chose not to disclose the information publicly.

Raya is one of a few Arsenal players to agree on a new deal lately, after defenders Gabriel and William Saliba, plus teenage attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, penned extensions in recent months.

Raya rewarded for consistent performances

News of Raya being on improved terms demonstrates that his club value his importance and have been impressed with the keeper since his arrival from Brentford.

Since making his debut for the club in August 2023, the Spaniard has kept 33 clean sheets in the Premier League, six more than any other keeper.

His ability to regularly keep the ball out of the net has seen him win the Premier League Golden Glove award in the past two seasons.

Raya's availability has also been key to Arsenal remaining strong defensively in recent times, as he has played every minute of league football since March 2024.

The 30-year-old's commanding performance in a 1-0 win away at Manchester United on the opening weekend of the current season highlighted how crucial he will be in his team's quest for the Premier League title.
