Deontay Wilder vs. Tyrrell Herndon prediction: Odds, expert betting tips, trends for 2025 boxing fight image

Deontay Wilder looks to return to his former glory, while Tyrrell Herndon attempts to play spoiler in a fight that is scheduled to start in the early hours of Saturday morning U.K. time.

Wilder (43-4-1) held the WBC heavyweight title from 2015 to 2020, losing the belt in an epic trilogy against Tyson Fury. “The Bronze Bomber” has gone 1-4 in his last five fights and has fought sparingly, only three times since the last bout with Fury in 2021.

The Alabama-born Wilder may not be the same fighter he once was, but he still possesses knockout power, having taken out 42 opponents via the power punch. With a new trainer and no longer burdened by injuries, Wilder believes he’s ready to start his journey back to the top.

“It is a big deal for me. I’m not going in and taking it lightly,” Wilder said to BroBible. “Although I look at it as I’m tuning myself up for my return. I’ve said what I’ve been through. I’ve said what I’ve physically had to go through. And this is the result of me now.

“I’ve put over 480 something rounds in camp, and I’m feeling great. I haven’t felt this way in a very a long time.”

Herndon (24-5) looks for his first win against a former world champion. The 37-year-old has fought the likes of Efe Ajagba and Richard Torrez Jr. With 15 wins via knockout, Herndon looks to make a name for himself at the expense of Wilder.

With the help of Spreadex, The Sporting News' boxing expert Daniel Yanofsky looks at the odds for this fight and makes a prediction.

TSN expert Daniel Yanofsky's verdict:

"Wilder used to rank high among heavyweight contenders and was considered a pound-for-pound star. His stats showcased his power, with a high landing and power percentage mark.

However, his output has dipped over his last few fights.

Against Joseph Parker, Wilder averaged 17 punches thrown and three landed per pound. He landed a total of 39 strikes compared to 89 by Parker. Getting knocked out by Zhilei Zhang, Wilder fought with his back against the ropes. He could not avoid Zhang's massive shots.

Herndon was taken out in the second round against Richard Torrez Jr., getting floored one minute into the round before the fight was called. He has pop but doesn't have the resume to match Wilder's.

As we have seen through his career, Wilder can take damage. Recently, he hasn't been able to take shots from the best boxing has to offer. However, he only needs one punch to take an opponent out.

If Wilder can't get the win, it's an indication of where he is in his career. He doesn't need to be his best. The 39-year-old just needs to throw like a madman with everything to lose.

Don't count out an upset, but if he still has that pop, Wilder should finish things off in the early rounds."

TSN'S PREDICTION: Wilder via KO (Round Two)
