Atletico Madrid’s 2025 Club World Cup campaign took a dramatic twist —from celebration to crunch time in a matter of hours. After beating Seattle Sounders to stay in the hunt for a knockout spot, Diego Simeone’s men now face a daunting final group-stage challenge.

With Botafogo shocking PSG 1-0, Atletico’s path forward hinges on nothing short of a statement win — by at least three goals — against the Brazilian side at the iconic Rose Bowl in Los Angeles.

While there's still a slim chance they could qualify if PSG stumble against winless Seattle, that scenario feels like a long shot. The real question now: Can Atleti pull off the comeback of the tournament?

As for Botafogo, they’ve been the surprise package of Group B. They opened with a solid victory over Seattle, then stunned the reigning Champions League winners with Igor Jesus’s clutch strike. Sitting atop the group with two wins, Botafogo are in a strong position — but not entirely safe. A heavy defeat to Atletico could still open the door for a dramatic exit, so there’s no room to take their foot off the gas.

Odds via Paddy Power favour Atletico in this one, whose win is priced at 8/13. A draw pays out 11/4, while a Botafogo upset comes in at 9/2.

Atletico Madrid vs. Botafogo prediction, tips, bet builder and odds for Club World Cup clash

Julian Alvarez Over 1.5 shots on target: 11/8 (Spreadex)

With the pressure mounting, expect Atleti to throw everything at the Brazilian backline — and that’s where Julian Alvarez comes in. The Argentine forward, nicknamed “La Arana” (The Spider), is due for a big moment.

He found the net 29 times in 56 appearances last season and is no stranger to high-stakes matches. While he’s yet to get on the scoresheet in this tournament, this is exactly the type of do-or-die clash where he tends to shine.

Both Teams To Score: 10/11 (Spreadex)

This match has the makings of a shootout. Atletico have been in fine attacking form lately, scoring four goals in three of their last four La Liga fixtures (including routs of Betis, Girona, and Real Sociedad). They’ve also struck first in each of their last three victories. But Botafogo are not just here to defend — they’ve now scored first in five straight matches and proved their attacking bite by putting one past PSG. Expect fireworks at both ends.

Atletico Madrid vs. Botafogo lineups, team news

Atletico will have Clement Lenglet back from suspension following his red card on the opening matchday. He could come in for Jose Maria Gimenez, who suffered an injury against Seattle.

Pablo Barrios' two goals last time out mean he will likely keep his place on the left of midfield. Simeone could consider partnering Rodrigo De Paul with Conor Gallagher to add some bite to midfield.

The coach will have to choose whether to restore Antoine Griezmann to the first XI, having dropped the experienced French star on matchday two. It feels more likely that Alexander Sorloth will partner Julian Alvarez in attack, though.

Atletico Madrid predicted lineup (4-4-2, right to left): Oblak (GK) — Llorente, Le Normand, Lenglet, Galan — Simeone, De Paul, Gallagher, Barrios — Sorloth, Alvarez

Injured: Gimenez (undisc.)
Suspended: None
Yellow card away from suspension: Gallagher, De Paul, Simeone, Le Normand, Koke, Correa, Reinildo

With Botafogo in pole position to go through, it seems unlikely coach Renato Paiva will make many — if any — changes from the win over PSG.

Igor Jesus has two goals in as many games and will lead the line against Atleti. Influential midfielder Gregore will need to walk the disciplinary tightrope carefully.

Botafogo predicted lineup (4-3-3, right to left): John (GK) — Vitinho, Cunha, Barboza, Telles — Allan, Gregore, Freitas — Artur, Jesus, Savarino

Injured: None
Suspended: None
Yellow card away from suspension: Gregore, Correa, Barboza
