MS Dhoni a 'backstabber' - Yograj Singh alleges CSK legend feared Yuvraj would replace him in India team image

Former India cricketer and father of Yuvraj Singh, Yograj is often in the news for his remarks on former players like MS Dhoni. He has once again expressed his displeasure over how his son was treated under Dhoni's tenure as Indian captain.

Yuvraj represented India from 2000 to 2017 and spent the majority of his career playing alongside MS Dhoni, where he was also appointed as the deputy skipper.

Interestingly, when Dhoni was appointed as India's captain, Yuvraj was also a frontrunner for the position, while Yuvraj was the senior pro between the two. However, Dhoni was given the responsibility, which created a stir in the media and among teammates.

While Dhoni and Yuvraj shared a great on-field relationship, Yograj has accused Dhoni of being a backstabber.

Why did Yograj Singh call MS Dhoni a backstabber?

India's World Cup 2011 hero Yuvraj, was among the established superstars during the mid-2000s, having played close to 150 internationals before Dhoni made his debut.

While he was already a key member of the squad, Dhoni quickly made a name for himself and earned the trust of the dressing room and the selectors to be named as the next leader of the team. India legend Sachin Tendulkar was also one of the players who had reportedly recommended him for the captaincy over the likes of Yuvraj.

However, according to Yograj, who played one Test and six ODIs for India, the former India skipper was a backstabber and feared his son Yuvraj would dethrone him from captaincy and also a spot in the Indian team.

"As I told you, there are no friends in the sphere of success, money and glory. There were always backstabbers, people who wanted to put you down. People were scared of Yuvraj Singh because they were afraid that he would usurp their seats, because he was such a great player created by God Almighty. He has been the greatest of players, who they were scared -- right from MS Dhoni, everybody -- 'oh he might take my chair," said Yograj,"

Despite the drama around the captaincy situation in 2007, Dhoni and Yuvraj always shared great moments together as a duo.

They were a big part of India's white-ball dominance in the late 2000s and early 2010s, stitching remarkable partnerships in the middle order, which included the World Cup 2011 final.

Yuvraj announced his retirement in 2019 after a 402-match international career, scoring 11778 runs. Dhoni hung up his boots in international cricket in 2020 after a 538-match career, scoring 17266 runs and guiding India to 3 ICC trophies.

While Dhoni continues to play the IPL for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Yuvraj has retired from all Indian cricket but is still playing in the legends exhibition leagues across the world.
