After he missed two Test matches in England earlier this year, people started asking if he can stay fit through the Asia Cup.
But batting legend Sunil Gavaskar feels there is no reason to panic. He believes Bumrah can handle this tournament easily.
Why is there talk about Bumrah’s workload?
Bumrah has had fitness issues in the past, and whenever he is rested in big series, questions come up. In the England Tests, India left him out for two matches, which made many wonder if his body could not take the load.
Since he is India’s main pace bowler across formats, the management always has to think carefully about his workload.
Fans also worry because India have a packed cricket calendar leading into the Asia Cup, World Test Championship and more ICC events.

Sunil Gavaskar about Jasprit Bumrah’s role in Asia Cup
According to Gavaskar, this Asia Cup will not trouble Bumrah at all. The format is T20, which means he will only need to bowl four overs in a game.
Gavaskar explained that it is not like bowling long spells in Tests. Here the overs are short and there are breaks too. So for him, there would be no problem of workload.
“In this Asia Cup, it is just a question of bowling four overs and that too it is not four overs at a stretch…So I don’t think there will be any problem for him to play this tournament," Gavaskar said.
"I mean there will be no workload problem for him because he has to bowl only four overs and there can be no problem,” he added.
Bumrah has got a 40-day rest since his last Test in England, so he will be fresh going into the Asia Cup starting September 9 in UAE.

How has Bumrah performed in T20Is recently?
The last time Bumrah played T20I cricket was in the 2024 T20 World Cup final against South Africa.
India lifted the trophy after a close 7-run win, and Bumrah was again the star. He picked 2 wickets for just 18 runs in his four overs.
His ability to bowl both with the new ball and at the death makes him India’s biggest strength. That is why every discussion about his fitness becomes such a hot topic.
For India, a fit Bumrah is not just good news, it is the biggest boost they could have before facing Pakistan and other rivals in UAE.
