What is England’s lowest ODI total at home? ENG collapse to 131 vs South Africa joins infamous list image

England fans had a day to forget at Headingley. On a pitch that looked fine for batting, the home side crumbled to just 131 runs all-out against South Africa in the first ODI of the series.

For a team known for their batting depth in white-ball cricket, this was another shocking collapse that has now entered their unwanted record list of lowest ODI scores on home soil.

Let's take a look at the England’s lowest ODI total at home.

How did England collapse so badly in Leeds?

South Africa’s spinners and seamers worked in perfect partnership. Left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj showed why he is world No.1 in ODIs with figures of 4/22.

He broke England’s middle order with clever variations. He dismissed Jacob Bethell cheaply and then got rid of Will Jacks with a return catch.

Later, he cleaned up Adil Rashid and bowled debutant Sonny Baker first ball to finish the job.

Mulder also played a huge role, removing the dangerous Buttler and then striking again immediately. Lungi Ngidi supported well, getting Joe Root out with the help of a sharp catch from Ryan Rickelton behind the stumps.

Opener Jamie Smith was the only one who fought, scoring 54 runs, while no other batter crossed 15.

England slipped from a decent 82/2 to losing eight wickets for just 49 runs. The innings ended inside 25 overs.
