One of the dominant storylines of the 2025 WNBA season has been the health of Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark.
After missing time with a left quadriceps injury and a left groin injury, Clark suffered an injury to her right groin in the fourth quarter of a game against the Connecticut Sun on July 15. While rehabbing the right groin injury, Clark sustained a bone bruise in her left ankle on Aug. 7, setting her back further.
Is Caitlin Clark playing tonight vs. Sky?
Optimism had been growing that Clark could make a sensational return to the hardwood for the season's final week, with the Fever (21-20) in the midst of a heated race for the playoffs.
But Clark on Thursday confirmed on social media that she would not play again in 2025, bringing her sophomore WNBA season to an end after just 13 games played.
"I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season," Clark wrote. "I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there, disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling."
Fever head coach Stephanie White has consistently stated that the franchise would prioritize the long-term health of Clark, who has become the WNBA's most recognizable player and its top marketing asset after only two seasons.
I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season. Clark, the top overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, was named an All-Star and Rookie of the Year last season as she led the Fever to the playoffs after an eight-year drought. Entering 2025, she was expected to take another step forward and steer the Fever toward championship contention -- but injuries to several Indiana players have dented those hopes.
With a full offseason to recover, Clark will be regarded as one of the top MVP candidates for 2026 as the Fever continue to build a sustainable title contender.
