We aren't even through Week 1 and the San Francisco 49ers already have an injury concern with running back Christian McCaffrey.
McCaffrey has become infamous for injuries throughout his career, as he's missed six or more games four times in the past seven years. In 2024, he appeared in just four games due to injury.
Now, there is a clear concern for McCaffrey going into the Week 1 contest with the Seattle Seahawks. Here's the latest update on his status.
Christian McCaffrey injury update
According to the 49ers' injury report on Thursday, McCaffrey was added to the list with a calf issue and turned in a limited practice.
It isn't clear when McCaffrey suffered the injury, but he was not on the injury report the day before, so it's possible it happened at Thursday's practice.
What's more troubling here is that McCaffrey dealt with a calf injury in 2024, although it isn't clear if it's the same one.
Whatever the case may be, McCaffrey's status for Week 1 is now in serious doubt. Chances are the 49ers will sit him for the season-opener if he is anything less than 100%.
If McCaffrey sits, recently acquired running back Brian Robinson Jr. will be in line for a massive workload.
