Purdy has had to deal with injuries throughout his young career, as he missed three combined games in 2023 and 2024. Now, Purdy begins the 2025 season with multiple injuries that could impact his availability.

Purdy suffered multiple injuries in Week 1 that put his status in doubt for Sunday's game against the Saints. The 49ers quarterback has both a toe injury and a left shoulder injury that he played through on Sunday to finish the game.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the team will evaluate Purdy in practice throughout the week before making a decision on whether he will start.

San Francisco has just two quarterbacks on the active roster in Purdy and Jones. Therefore, Jones is the clear-cut option to start if Purdy's injury sidelines him

Purdy's absence would mean San Francisco would elevate Adrian Martinez from the practice squad to backup Jones on Sunday. Martinez has never played in an NFL game but spent last season on the New York Jets practice squad.
