The 49ers will be without one of their best players for the rest of their Week 1 matchup against the Seahawks.
Star tight end George Kittle has been ruled out for the remainder of the game due to a hamstring injury. The injury occurred in the second quarter and San Francisco will have to hope that the injury isn't too severe to keep him sidelined for a longer period of time.
Kittle had already scored a touchdown in the game as he caught a five-yard pass from his quarterback Brock Purdy. The tight end was one of the healthiest players on the offense, as running back Christian McCaffrey and the wide receiver room have been dealing with injuries all preseason, leading up to Week 1.

George Kittle injury updates
Kittle has been ruled out for the remainder of the 49ers' Week 1 game due to a hamstring injury. It was tough to tell where Kittle's injury occurred. After he scored his touchdown, he spiked the football in the endzone and appeared fine.

Purdy was sacked in the second quarter. After the play, Kittle came over to the sideline and went right into the medical tent. When he emerged, he put on a 49ers hat instead of his helmet, and the TV broadcast of the game broke the news that he wasn't even questionable to return, but was instead ruled out.
This was the play where Kittle got hurt, but you can't really tell what happened to him. If the injury really did occur when Purdy was sacked, this was the lone sack he took in the first half.

While not the absolute worst news possible, the 49ers got bad news on the Kittle front. The star tight end will miss multiple weeks due to his hamstring injury, per Adam Schefter. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added that Kittle is expected to miss three to five weeks, which makes him a candidate to go on IR. If that happens, he must miss at least four games.

George Kittle fantasy football replacements
Losing Kittle is going to hurt fantasy football managers. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers was the consensus top tight end, followed by Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride and Kittle. The San Francisco tight end had an average draft position (ADP) of 34th overall, which in a 12-team league would be a back-end of the third round pick. That is high draft capital to not be able to use for three to five weeks.
You aren't going to be able to find a direct replacement that will re-capture that value, and you will have to look for upside on the waiver wire.
Here are some options you can look at on waivers to help ease the blow of Kittle's injury.
Player | Roster % (Yahoo) | Week 1 stats |
Hunter Henry, Patriots | 59% | 8.6 FP - 4 receptions, 66 yards |
Zach Ertz, Commanders | 51% | 10.1 FP - 3 receptions, 26 yards, TD |
Jonnu Smith, Steelers | 31% | 10 FP - 5 receptions, 15 yards, TD |
Juwan Johnson, Saints | 2% | 11.6 FP - 8 receptions, 76 yards |
