A former Pittsburgh Steelers edge rusher has finally found a new home with the Washington Commanders.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, veteran EDGE Preston Smith is signing with the Commanders. The length and financial terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

This is the second go-around for Smith in Washington. He was originally a second-round pick of the franchise in 2015 and spent four seasons with the team.

The signing of Smith comes after the Commanders lost fellow veteran edge rusher Deatrich Wise to a season-ending injury suffered in Week 2.

Smith spent the 2024 campaign with both the Green Bay Packers and Steelers. Smith was traded to Pittsburgh at the trade deadline but failed to make much of an impact.

Smith posted two sacks in eight games and was a healthy scratch in two of the team's last three contests, including the playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Mississippi State product has tallied eight or more sacks in a season six times, including as recently as the 2023 campaign.
