The Philadelphia Eagles made a surprising roster move on Wednesday, placing Super Bowl hero linebacker Nolan Smith on injured reserve.
NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Smith aggravated the triceps injury he sustained during the Eagles' Super Bowl LIX victory but is expected to be back soon.
The team announced it signed safety Marcus Epps, tight end Cam Latu, and cornerback Parry Nickerson to the active roster while placing cornerback Jakorian Bennett, wide receiver Darius Cooper and Smith on injured reserve. Linebacker Lance Dixon, defensive back Eli Ricks and wide receiver Quez Watkins were added to the practice squad.
Smith, a first-round pick in the 2023 draft out of Georgia, played a key role in the Eagles' Super Bowl victory despite playing most of the game on one arm after tearing the triceps. He finished the season with 6.5 sacks and 42 tackles, and contributed four sacks during the playoff run.
