The New York Jets are 0-6 after a brutal Week 6 loss to the Denver Broncos. A 13-11 loss was on the shoulders of the offense and Aaron Glenn, as the defense came to play against a solid Bo Nix-led offense.

But, in the wake of their Week 6 frustrating loss, the Jets are now eyed as potential trade deadline sellers. Teams have already made calls to the Jets about players, but now, some more intriguing names are popping up as trade candidates.

According to SNY.tv reporter Connor Hughes, the Jets are receiving a lot of interest in Jermaine Johnson ahead of the deadline. While a trade involving the young edge rusher would cost a lot, the fourth-year defender is a name to watch as the deadline approaches.

Jets' Jermaine Johnson drawing trade interest from around the NFL

"DE Jermaine Johnson is a name that has come up for several teams in need of edge help in trade discussions, sources told SNY." Hughes writes. "It would take 'a lot' for the Jets to part with Johnson, a team involved in those conversations said."

Johnson is in year four with the Jets, and with his 5th-year option, he's under team control through the 2026 NFL season. A team acquiring Johnson would have to give up a good amount to get him, but it's no longer out of the question like it might've been in the offseason.

Hughes' report indicates that multiple teams are trying to land the 26-year-old edge rusher from the Jets at this year's trade deadline, even if the price might be steep.

Johnson played in just three games this season and two games in 2024 after suffering a brutal injury that forced him to miss the majority of the year.

But when he's on the field, Johnson is a great edge defender. This season, he has one sack and 12 tackles on 120 snaps. In 2023, Johnson was named a Pro Bowler in his second NFL season thanks to 7.5 sacks with 55 tackles, 16 quarterback hits, 11 tackles for loss, one interception and one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

The former Georgia and Florida State defensive lineman has been great in his time in the NFL, even though it's been limited due to injury. Drafted in the first round by the Jets in the 2022 NFL Draft, Johnson could be in his final year with the Jets in 2025.

A team like the Philadelphia Eagles could pay up for Johnson, as they're down multiple edge defenders and need help to try and repeat as Super Bowl champions. The San Francisco 49ers, in the wake of Nick Bosa's injury, could target Johnson to reunite him with former Jets head coach Robert Saleh.

As of right now, a trade doesn't seem likely based on the expensive nature of the package needed to land Johnson, but it's something to monitor as the trade deadline approaches. The Jets could move on from Johnson at the deadline, landing a strong haul to help begin a rebuild after what's looking like a disastrous 2025 NFL season.
