The New York Jets are off to a brutal start of the Aaron Glenn era, starting 0-5 for the first time since 2020.
While there is talent on the roster, the team has just not been able to find its groove through the first month of the season, and New York is once again starting down the barrel of another lost season.
With the Jets currently in the driver's seat for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, it may be time for New York to start selling off players entering the last year of their contracts before losing them for nothing in free agency.
Jets trade idea ships Breece Hall to the Texans for draft capital
In a trade idea proposed by Josh Weil of Pro Football Network, the Jets would ship running back Breece Hall, who is in the last year of his rookie deal, to the Houston Texans in exchange for draft capital.
Houston Texans receive: Breece Hall, Browns’ 2026 seventh-round pick
New York Jets receive: 2026 fourth-round pick
"The core is locked up, so they must pull the right strings to get this thing. Unfortunately, the losing culture is in full effect, and they should look to sell off some pieces on expiring contracts to maximize their picks for the offseason to help shape what 2026-27 looks like," wrote Weil.
"They never committed to Breece Hall as the standalone starter at running back this season, which led me to believe they have felt that he will not return, so trading him could be the key move that helps kick this thing into gear."
While parting with Hall, who quickly became a fan favorite in New York, would be a tough pill to swallow, the Jets should be stocking up on future draft capital as they continue their rebuild.
New York also has solid running back depth already on the roster. Second-year back Braelon Allen is currently injured, but is a good player when healthy. Isaiah Davis has also flashed at times and would be a good change-of-pace runner on passing downs.
There's still some time for the Jets to turn things around, but in the meantime, it may be in their best interest to start taking a hard look at the current roster and question who is going to be here for the long haul.
