The New England Patriots are reportedly waiving one of their bigger standouts from training camp this year.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Patriots are cutting ties with cornerback D.J. James, who will now go to waivers.
"A sixth-round pick by Seattle last year, James spent most of his rookie season with New England and was a training camp star this summer," he wrote. "Now, he’s headed to waivers."
James was originally a sixth-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks in 2024 but failed to make the team's roster. The Patriots then signed him to the practice squad, where he spent the rest of his rookie campaign.
After signing a futures contract in January, James managed to earn a spot on the Pats' initial 53-man roster after making the most of increased opportunities in the wake of two Patriots cornerbacks being limited during the summer.
James saw two snaps on defense and another five on special teams in the season-opening loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
