Jakobi Meyers gets himself a revenge game to open the 2025 NFL season.

His Las Vegas Raiders have made the trip to take on the New England Patriots in Week 1.

Meyers broke into the NFL as an undrafted player with the Pats. He had begun his college career as a quarterback at North Carolina State, and it was in New England that he proved his transition to wide receiver that began collegiately could work in the pros, too.

After the 2022 season, though, Meyers left the Patriots for the Raiders.

His name has been in the headlines recently due to a reported trade request, but it sounds like Meyers will play in the meantime while he hopes for a raise.

This isn't the first time money has dictated his NFL decision-making.

Why did Jakobi Meyers leave the Patriots for the Raiders?

Jakobi Meyers left the Patriots because their contract offer to him was $1 million less than what the Raiders offered.

He eventually got a three-year, $33 million deal with Vegas.

Meyers shared that $1 million detail last year, according to Boston.com.

“They just wouldn’t budge. At the end of the day, (Bill Belichick) didn’t want to move,” Meyers told Boston.com. “And I respected it. Like it is his job to do what’s best for his team or what he thinks is best for the team. It just didn’t align on what I felt like I was worth. … They wouldn’t move. I wouldn’t have minded staying. It would’ve been a different conversation. I probably would’ve thought about it a little differently. I did enjoy Boston… It was definitely a sting when I left, but I understand the business side.”

Meyers is coming off his best NFL season, catching 87 passes for 1,027 yards and four touchdowns in 15 games played despite working with some mediocre QBs.

Meanwhile, the Patriots didn't really have a WR1 last season in Drake Maye's rookie campaign.

For 2025, they signed veteran Stefon Diggs to lead their receiving corps.

In Vegas, Meyers is still the top wideout, pairing with tight end Brock Bowers to get a heap of targets from new QB Geno Smith.
