Minnesota Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy has suffered an injury that puts him in danger of missing the Week 3 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
According to Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell, McCarthy suffered an ankle injury on Sunday night that will likely force him to miss the Week 3 contest.
"Vikings HC Kevin O'Connell says J.J. McCarthy came in sore with an ankle sprain. They don't anticipate having him for Sunday against the Bengals," Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.
McCarthy did seem to be limping after taking a hit during the game against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2. He did finish the game, however.
If McCarthy doesn't suit up versus Cincinnati, the Vikings will turn to veteran backup quarterback Carson Wentz, who last made a start in Week 18 last season for the Kansas City Chiefs.
In that game, Wentz, who signed a one-year, $1.4 million deal with the Vikings in the offseason, completed 10-of-17 passes for 98 yards.
McCarthy had a stellar fourth quarter in his debut in Week 1 that completely changed the outlook of the game. However, he came back down to earth in Week 2 in what was a struggle for the second-year quarterback and Minnesota's offense.
Now, McCarthy will rest up and rehab in the hopes he can return for Week 4.
