The statistic seemed almost impossible to believe.
Entering Friday night's game in Brazil, the Kansas City Chiefs had one 17 consecutive one-possession games.
The Los Angeles Chargers had other ideas.
The Chargers took the lead on a Quentin Johnston touchdown reception and never trailed.
But as usual, those pesky Chiefs didn't go away.

Those 17 wins in a row in games decided by eight points or fewer were an NFL record. And that record streak is now snapped.
Afterward on the YouTube broadcast, Chargers QB Justin Herbert said it was "just another game."
Hardly.
This was a statement of the highest order by the Chargers. They too have a superstar quarterback. They too believe they can do big things.
It's year two under Jim Harbaugh, a chance for continuity to meld with talent to lead to major accomplishments.
And opening the season with a win over the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes is hard to top.
If it was just another game, the Chiefs would've won it by one possession in the end.
But this was a record stopper. And now the Chargers can try to make some history of their own.
