The Kansas City Chiefs could use some more juice in the running back room, as Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt have been underwhelming as the primary players in the position group.
There aren't many high-quality running backs currently on the open market. However, CBS Sports' Cody Benjamin suggests the team should trade for New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara.
"Kamara may want to retire with the New Orleans Saints, but what if the reigning AFC champions call with an offer to join a potential Super Bowl bid?" Benjamin wrote.
Despite playing on an abysmal Saints offense, Kamara has still been productive this year. The five-time Pro Bowler has posted 314 rushing yards and 122 receiving yards with one touchdown through six games while also averaging 3.8 yards per carry.
In 2024, Kamara tallied 1,493 scrimmage yards and eight total touchdowns. Though the 30-year-old is no longer an elite running back, he can still provide adequate production as a starter and be a difference-maker for a contender.
Acquiring Kamara would take a ton of pressure off quarterback Patrick Mahomes' shoulder and add more versatility to Andy Reid's offense. The 2017 third-round pick has tallied over 1,100 scrimmage yards in each of his first eight seasons.
Kansas City doesn't have a sixth or seventh round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, general manager Brett Veach could trade one of the team's fourth or fifth-round picks for Kamara, who doesn't have the highest trade value anymore.
The Chiefs could elevate their offense to a new level by adding Kamara to the backfield. Giving up draft capital for an aging running back may not be the wisest move, but Kansas City is in a win-now mode, and Kamara immediately makes Reid's squad better.
