Some trades age exactly how you expect them to.

After the 2021 season, the Indianapolis Colts made it pretty clear they wanted to move on from quarterback Carson Wentz.

That didn't stop Washington from sending three draft picks to Indy to get Wentz.

ESPN's Bill Barnwell revisited this deal on Thursday and called it a "significant win for the Colts."

The draft pick haul for Indianapolis was split up further, and they ended up getting five players selected from those original three picks from Washington: Alec Pierce, Josh Downs, Jelani Woods, Drew Ogletree and Bernhard Raimann.

And they saved a bunch of money in the deal, too.

"This would have been a gift for the Colts for financial reasons alone, given that Washington did Indianapolis a solid by taking Wentz's guarantees off its hands," Barnwell writes. "The Commanders also swapped second-round picks, moving down five spots, and sent the Colts a pair of third-round selections in the process."

Wentz made seven starts for Washington.

The one downside to the deal is the Colts still haven't solved their QB problems since Andrew Luck's shock retirement.

But it never looked like Wentz was going to be the long-term answer, anyway, so moving off of his money and getting lots of talent back worked out in a great way for the Colts, and not so much for Washington.
