Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was a surprise inactive for the Week 6 game against the Arizona Cardinals.
Initially, it was believed that Richardson was a healthy scratch, which could've been a sign that the Colts were ready to trade him.
However, it was later revealed that Richardson suffered an eye injury in pre-game warm-ups. After the game, head coach Shane Steichen provided more details on Richardson's injury.
Anthony Richardson injury update
Steichen revealed that Richardson suffered an orbital fracture while doing pre-game resistance band work. There is no timeline for his recovery currently.
"Colts HC Shane Steichen says QB Anthony Richardson Sr. suffered an orbital fracture while doing pregame band work. He was taken to the hospital," The Athletic's James Boyd reported. "No recovery timeline right now."
Steichen adds that rookie Riley Leonard will be the team's backup "for now," which seems to suggest the team could add another quarterback behind Daniel Jones.
The former No. 4 overall pick simply cannot catch a break.
He has been marred by injury during his career and now he suffers a freak accident like this. Of course, Richardson was considered a trade candidate but we can pump the brakes on that until he recovers.
