The Detroit Lions have offered an injury update on defensive end Marcus Davenport without directly saying a word about him.
The team announced on Monday that Davenport has been placed on injured reserve, which means he'll miss at least the next four games.
Davenport suffered a chest injury in the Week 2 win over the Chicago Bears, but the Lions haven't offered much of an update on him, other than to say he isn't likely to miss the rest of the season.
Thankfully, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Davenport is just dealing with a pec strain and he is expected to be back after his four-game IR stint.
Regardless, this is exactly what Lions fans feared.
Detroit didn't make any significant additions to the edge rusher group this offseason and instead just re-signed Davenport to start opposite Aidan Hutchinson. The problem, however, is that Davenport simply cannot stay healthy.
Now, the Lions are extremely short along the edge and will lean on Al-Quadin Muhammad to start. Hutchinson and Muhammad are the only two edge rushers Detroit has on the 53-man roster, so look for a roster move after Week 3.
In addition to placing Davenport on injured reserve, the Lions elevated tight end Ross Dwelley from the practice squad. He'll serve as the TE3 behind Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright after Shane Zylstra landed on IR recently.
The Lions will take on the Baltimore Ravens on "Monday Night Football" in Week 3, with kickoff set for 8:20 p.m. ET.
