The Cincinnati Bengals' 2025 season is in serious trouble.
As if the injury to Joe Burrow wasn't enough, the Bengals are getting nothing out of backup quarterback Jake Browning, who threw up another stinker on Monday night en route to a 28-3 loss to the Denver Broncos, which drops Cincy to 2-2.
Browning has shown to be a solid backup in the past, but that has not been the case since he took over for Burrow. As a result, the Bengals need to start exploring their options at the quarterback position if they want to save their season.
One of those options is New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson. The Sporting News' Vinnie Iyer is pleading with Cincinnati to make a move for the veteran.
"Browning has proved he won't help the Bengals win as much as they need to without Burrow. Wilson at the very worst would make them fun to watch and not waste another year of Chase and Higgins' well-paid prime," Iyer wrote.
Wilson became expendable after the Giants benched him in favor of Jaxson Dart, who will be the starter the rest of the way, barring injury. Now, rumors are already swirling about his potential availability in a trade.
It's not even like the Giants need Wilson as a backup since the team also has Jameis Winston on the roster.
Now, there is zero guarantee that Wilson will be good enough to help weather the storm in Cincinnati after what we've seen of him in recent years.
But he would at least offer the Bengals another option. There is no long-term or expensive commitment with Wilson, either, as he's on a one-year, $10.5 million contract.
Whatever the Bengals do, they can't sit on their hands and wait for Browning to figure things out. At this point, that would equate to waving the white flag, something this team is too talented to do.
As long as there's a chance Burrow will be back in 2025, Cincinnati needs to do whatever it takes to try and improve its situation until he gets back.
Acquiring Wilson would be an adequate attempt.
