The Buffalo Bills are going to need to add a punter after an injury update on punter Cameron Johnston surfaced on Monday.

Johnston suffered a lower-leg injury in the Week 4 win over the New Orleans Saints that forced his early exit. The veteran punter was clearly in pain after sustaining the injury, so it didn't look good from the jump.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport revealed that Johnston is expected to "miss some time" with the injury and injured reserve remains a possibility.

"Bills punter Cameron Johnston, who suffered a lower-leg injury, is expected to miss some time, sources say. No word yet on IR. But Buffalo will need another punter," Rapoport reported.

Johnston was signed by the Bills after Week 1 after punter Brad Robbins struggled and was released. Johnston was averaging a pedestrian 37.9 yards per punt over his three contests in Buffalo.

It has been a rough few years for the veteran punter when it comes to injuries. His 2024 campaign with the Pittsburgh Steelers was cut short after just one contest because of a season-ending knee injury.

Johnston returned to Pittsburgh in 2025 but lost out on the starting competition to Corliss Waitman.

It has been a rough year for Bills specialists. Along with Robbins' struggles and Johnston's injury, kicker Tyler Bass is on injured reserve and it isn't clear when Buffalo's starting kicker will be back.

Matt Prater has been good in his absence, though, as he's only missed one of his nine field goal attempts.
