Lane Kiffin is one of the most recognizable head coaches in college football.
Known for his signature visor on the sideline, he has also gained attention off the field, appearing in his daughter's social media posts—whether in a "Get Ready With Me" clip or joining the latest TikTok dance craze.
Coaching runs in his blood. His father was a longtime defensive coordinator, and after Kiffin’s playing career at Fresno State ended, he followed in his dad’s footsteps. Focusing primarily on offense, he landed his first head coaching role with the Las Vegas Raiders in 2007, when the team was still in Oakland.
Kiffin returned to college football in 2009 and bounced around the country, coaching at a number of colleges and becoming one of the sport's most famous names.

Monte Kiffin is considered one of the greatest defensive coordinators of all time and is widely credited as the "father" of the Tampa 2 defensive scheme.
He played offensive and defensive tackle at Nebraska from 1959 to 1963 and spent the 1964 offseason with the Minnesota Vikings, though he didn’t make the full roster. Kiffin went on to play three seasons in the Continental Football League before retiring as a player and beginning his coaching career.
Monte coached in some capacity from 1966 to 2014, holding various assistant and defensive roles. He served as a head coach only once, at NC State from 1980 to 1982, finishing 16-17 with the Wolfpack. For the remainder of his career, he remained one of football’s most respected assistants.
He passed away in July 2024 at the age of 84. Most recently, from 2020 to 2023, he served as a player personnel analyst at Ole Miss, working alongside his son, Lane.

Lane Kiffin mom: Robin Kiffin
Kiffin's mother Robin largely stayed out of the spotlight. She was interviewed in 2007 by ESPN about what it was like to be married to Monte, and then having both of her sons follow in his coaching footsteps. One of the telling parts from the interview was when she said that she had to learn to ignore the calendar. Christmas tended to fall during the season, so the family got used to celebrating in mid-January.
Robin died on June 17, 2025 at 81 years old. She and Monte were married for 50 years.
