Colorado's Deion Sanders says he'll undergo surgery Tuesday to address a medical issue. The Colorado Buffaloes coach addressed his status with reporters during his weekly press conference.
"I cannot wait to get past this hurdle," Sanders said. He added this has "Nothing to do with me working at the level I'm trying to compete at." Coach Prime's expects to be back at practice later this week and on the sideline this weekend against Iowa State.
"Cat's out of the bag, all right. I think I've got more blood clots," Sanders said on Saturday night. "It don't make sense. I'm hurting like crazy."
This is the latest setback for Sanders, who spent most of the offseason away from Boulder dealing with bladder cancer. The 58-year-old Hall of Famer had his bladder removed with intestine reconstruction used to function for bodily function.
Sanders had emergency surgery to remove blood clots two years ago. The struggle has been real since having two toes amputated in 2021 while at Jackson State. He missed Pac-12 media day in 2023 to have a few different surgeries. He ended the press conference on a positive note.
"I trust God with all my heart and all my soul and all my mind," Sanders said. "I'm going to go in there and I'm going to get some of the best sleep in the world for, I think, four hours, the surgery is going to be. "I've never been high a day in my life. I've never drank, smoked or anything. But when I get those surgeries, I am there on time."
