Joel Klatt sends clear message about Ty Simpson's future at Alabama image

FOX Sports analyst Joel Klatt believes Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson is playing at an elite level. One worthy of more national recognition than he’s received so far. During a discussion on The Next Round  podcast, Klatt praised Simpson’s decision-making, suggesting that if his last name were “Manning,” the Heisman Trophy ceremony might already be over.

"If Ty Simpson’s name was Ty Manning, we would cancel the end of the season. Heisman Trophy ceremony and would do it now," Klatt said.

Klatt said his in-depth film study of Alabama’s recent win over Wisconsin left him stunned by Simpson’s command of the offense and ability to make difficult throws. “There were like five times where I paused the film,” Klatt said. “I was just like, whoa, that’s really good.”

Through five games, Simpson has thrown for 1,478 yards and accounted for 15 total touchdowns with only one turnover. He currently ranks fourth in BetMGM’s 2025 Heisman Trophy odds. But Klatt noted that Alabama’s success depends not only on Simpson but also on maintaining a balanced attack.

“They don’t have to be great running the football,” Klatt said. “But if they can be competent... Alabama might win the SEC.”

Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer doesnt wasn't Simpson and the team to get complacent. “He knows how it’s supposed to look. He’s passed the point of proving he can do it. Now it’s about leadership.”

Tide offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb added that Simpson remains grounded despite the growing national attention. “He’s a humble guy,” Grubb said. “He can throw for 300 yards and still come into the meeting room with an open mind about what he could’ve done better.”

Alabama seems to have found its next star under center. The 8th-ranked Crimson Tide face No. 14 Missouri on Saturday (Noon ET, ABC).
