Kawhi Leonard's exit from the San Antonio Spurs may not have been perfect.

He's still one of the best players in franchise history, though.

That makes it curious that this season, Dylan Harper will wear the No. 2 on his jersey. That was Leonard's number.

It's not retired, though.

The Spurs have opted to keep the number in circulation despite Leonard winning a championship, two Defensive Player of the Year awards, two All-NBA awards and a Finals NBA in his time in San Antonio.

Harper will be a good player. But there are a lot of numbers out there.

Why isn't Kawhi Leonard's jersey number 2 retired by Spurs?

There's no official word on why the Spurs haven't retired the number 2 for Leonard.

But it probably has to do with how things ended.

Leonard had a year-long dispute with the Spurs due to a quad injury, and it ended up ruining his relationships in San Antonio.

Eventually, the Spurs traded Leonard to the Toronto Raptors, and he won a title there, too.

Maybe some day the hard feelings go away and the Spurs recognize Leonard for his greatness.

For now, Harper gets 2 on his back, too.
