Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder are NBA champions.

The Thunder earned a hard-fought series victory and title after beating the Indiana Pacers in seven games. Gilgeous-Alexander had a historic season, winning the MVP Award and following that up by winning the Finals MVP Award

Obviously, the Thunder are a complete team. However, Oklahoma City still boasts arguably the most trade assets of any team in the league, and it's possible the team bundles those assets to land another star to add to the pairing of Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams.

Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report believes versatile forward Cameron Johnson could be a logical target for the Thunder. Johnson excelled for the lowly Brooklyn Nets in 2024-25, and has been rumored as a trade candidate for months now.

Their perimeter attack, for instance, could be a bit more potent. Johnson has shot 39 percent or better from three in five of his six NBA seasons, and his volume has never been higher (7.2 attempts per outing this past season).

They could stand to have more size on the wings, too. Again, he'd be an itch-scratcher. He's a 6'8", 210-pounder who can toggle between the 3 and 4 spots and has even seen a smattering of minutes as a small-ball 5. And while he isn't a lockdown defender by any means, he's fine in a team context, particularly on a squad with this many stoppers.

Since they officially have a championship core in place, they may eschew star pursuits and rather seek out high-end support players. Johnson is one of the best ones around.

As Buckley mentioned, the Thunder could stand to add more shooting and size on the wing. The team has the assets to go for a true star, but may prefer to keep the bulk of the core in place and add a high-end role player like Johnson.

Johnson would immediately help the Thunder's shooting.

The North Carolina product averaged 18.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while shooting 47% from the field and 39% from deep.

Johnson also attempted a career-high 7.2 threes per game in 2024-25, and the Thunder could definitely use that volume.

To make this trade work, the Thunder could part with Lu Dort or Isaiah Hartenstein, plus a multitude of draft picks. Johnson can play the three or four spot, or even as a small-ball five, which would be useful if Hartenstein is moved.

Johnson isn't set to hit free agency until 2027-28, so the Thunder would get at least two seasons of a very solid wing to pair with Gilgeous-Alexander and Williams.
