The Oklahoma City Thunder completed one of the greatest single seasons by a team in NBA history on Sunday, as Mark Daigneault's squad tallied a 103-91 victory in Game 7 to win the 2025 NBA Finals.
The Thunder have one of the deepest rosters in the entire sport and will enter next season as the favorites to go back-to-back. However, Bleacher Report's David Kenyon believes Oklahoma City and general manager Sam Presti could target guard Malcolm Brogdon in free agency to upgrade the championship core.
"Landing a second-unit facilitator would be ideal for OKC, which otherwise leaned on Alex Caruso or Cason Wallace in that capacity. Using that MLE, the Thunder should make a call about versatile guard Malcolm Brogdon," Kenyon wrote.
Brogdon hasn't played much over the last two seasons due to injury, playing in just 39 games for the Portland Trailblazers in 2023 and 24 games for the Washington Wizards in 2024.
When healthy, Brogdon is an efficient scorer who can be a nice facilitator off the bench and also play solid perimeter defense. The 32-year-old won the Sixth Man of the Year award in 2022 with the Boston Celtics, as he averaged 14.9 points per game that year and also shot 44.4% from three.
Due to his uncertain health, Brogdon shouldn't cost too much to sign. Taking a flyer on the veteran guard would be a savvy move from the Thunder, as he would be a fantastic leader of the second unit and an incredibly valuable piece to have for a playoff run.
Oklahoma City can use their Mid-Level Exception to sign Brogdon, which is currently slated at $14.1 million, per SalarySwish.
