While the Toronto Blue Jays are in the playoffs, it is still worth considering what their future might look like. The club is at risk of losing star shortstop Bo Bichette this offseason.
Bichette will become a free agent when the season comes to an end, and could generate quite a market. He is coming off a year where he played in 139 regular-season games, hitting .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 runs batted in.
He is one of the best-hitting shortstops in the league, and that can partially cover some of the mistakes he makes on the defensive side of things. Bichette is also just 27 years old, so he still has plenty of prime years left.
Bo Bichette aligns perfectly with the Angels' needs
One club that will be going into the offseason looking to add a star to the mix is the Los Angeles Angels. With Mike Trout's often trips to the IL, the Halos need another big-time name to count on.
This is where Bo Bichette comes in. According to Fansided's Robert Murray, he views the slugger as being a top choice for the Angels this winter.
"He was instrumental in the Jays' surge this season and his bat will get him paid handsomely, with a contract around - or north - of Willy Adames' seven-year, $182 million being in play. But long term, what position does he play?"
The only question is where Bichette would play long term. Zach Neto has held down shortstop for the Halos, but third base is an area they could use an upgrade.
Yoan Moncada was used primarily at the position, but he is not someone the club can count on, often making trips to the IL. Bichette at third base could really push this club to be a true postseason contender if everyone can stay healthy.
