Max Scherzer got back on a mound on Friday night.

He made his first rehab start down at Triple-A Buffalo and had a decent evening.

Scherzer lasted 4.1 innings (56 pitches), allowing two earned runs and striking out four.

According to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, Scherzer's fastball sat at 91.9 miles per hour.

Scherzer is dealing with a recurring thumb issue on his throwing hand.

Bannon wrote on X: "Big test is how his thumb feels tomorrow."

The Blue Jays will wait with their fingers crossed for good news.

Scherzer had thrown 50 pitches Sunday at the Blue Jays' complex against their own minor leaguers and came out of that feeling good and ready for this Friday rehab outing.

If he can ramp up another 20-25 pitches in his next start, his return to Toronto could be coming sooner rather than later.
