Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom has had a long and successful career in MLB. deGrom has four All-Star trips, two Cy Youngs, a Rookie of the Year award, an ERA title and 1,728 strikeouts in his career.
The former New York Mets star has now been with the Rangers for the past few seasons. On Monday, deGrom got the start again, although the Rangers lost, 2-1, at home against the Toronto Blue Jays.
deGrom went 5.1 innings and gave up just two runs on five hits while walking two batters, although he was the pitcher of record. In surprising fashion, deGrom did not strike out a batter, which marked the first time in his career he has done that, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com.
"Final line on Jacob deGrom: 5 1/3 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 0 K This is the first time in his big league career that deGrom has not recorded a strikeout."
deGrom's has struck out seven or more batters in each of his last three starts, including 10 in the game against the Detroit Tigers on May 10.
But there were zero on Monday in a weird outing for deGrom, especially since he threw 81 pitches and only gave up five hits.
It's certainly a strange piece of history for deGrom, and one he will likely want to forget about when he takes the mound next for the Rangers.
