Mariners' Cal Raleigh gets MVP precursor news with cool honor image

Cal Raleigh's MVP case will continue to be debated against that of Aaron Judge.

But the Seattle Mariners' catcher has already locked up one end-of-season award.

Baseball Digest and Inside Edge named Raleigh their MLB Player of the Year on Friday.

In some ways, this is even more remarkable than winning AL MVP, because it's an honor for all of Major League Baseball, and that means Raleigh also won the honor over Los Angeles Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.

Raleigh certainly had a special season.

The big number is the 60 home runs. He set new single-season records for homers by a catcher, a switch-hitter and a Mariner.

Raleigh also drove in 125 runs. He even stole 14 bases. His OPS was .948.

And he's one of the best defensive catchers in baseball.

The Mariners will hope the regular season wasn't the finale of Raleigh's epic year, though. There is playoff baseball to be played.

The Mariners open the ALDS on Saturday at home against the Detroit Tigers. And the Big Dumper will have a chance to grow the legacy of his 2025 campaign even greater.
