There has been no Philadelphia Phillies hitter who's been more impressive than Kyle Schwarber this season. He's reached 50 home runs, and also had a feat rarer than a perfect game: hitting four home runs in one game.
Heading into the final two series of the 2025 season, Schwarber was looking to add to his home run total. He hit one out against the Miami Marlins in the first game of the series, and in game two, he hit another homer.
But, as Matt Gelb of The Athletic points out, this home run, Schwarber's 55th of the year, is more than just further elevating his career high. Schwarber's third-inning home run not only tied the game, but it also came off left-handed pitcher Ryan Weathers, cementing a record for Schwarber that hasn't been done before in MLB history.
Phillies' Kyle Schwarber sets new benchmark for left-on-left home run hitting prowess
Gelb points out that with his 55th home run of the year, off a left-handed pitcher, Schwarber has the MLB record for most home runs hit by a left-handed hitter against a left-handed pitcher.
Kyle Schwarber's 23 home runs against a lefty this season are the most in Major League Baseball history for a lefty batter vs. lefty pitcher.

Normally, a left-on-left matchup is a big advantage for the pitcher. But, against Schwarber, there's no escape from his home-run-hitting potential. Of his 55 home runs, 23 have come against left-handers while the other 32 are against righties.
Schwarber has a .246 batting average and a .946 OPS against left-handed pitchers. Against right-handed pitchers, he's hitting .236 with a .919 OPS. He has 11 more homers against right-handers than left-handers, but he's still an elite presence at the plate against lefties.

The 32-year-old slugger is in the middle of a career year and is also in the final year of his four-year, $79 million deal. His production at the plate, including his dominance against left-handers, will make Schwarber a hot commodity this offseason.
This MLB history that Schwarber set in the penultimate series of the 2025 season for the Phillies is further indication of how great this season has been for Schwarber.
With some incredible left-handed hitters littered throughout MLB history, Schwarber is alone atop the home-run leaderboards for left-on-left matchups. Ahead of the postseason, this statistic only further makes Schwarber the Phillies' most dangerous hitter.
